SEGMENT ONE
Driver Education
Segment 1 consists of 24 hours of classroom instruction, 6 hours on-the-road instruction, and 4 hours of observation. If you are under the age of 18 you are required to take Segment 1 by the State of Michigan to receive a Level 1 Learner's License.
What you can expect
• 24 HOURS OF CLASSROOM TIME (AS MANDATED BY THE STATE)
Two hours per day for four weeks. Per state guidelines topics will include: learning about the GDL process, knowing your vehicle, laws of physics, traffic control devices, traffic laws, vision and perception, changing lanes, parking, sharing the road, intersections and freeways, driving conditions, emergency situations.
In addition to classroom time, students, will complete six hours of behind-the-wheel drivers training. By law, no more than one hour per day. The behind the wheel hours will coincide with the classroom material; students will sign up for drives after (4) hours of classroom training.
• 6 HOURS BEHIND THE WHEEL
In addition to classroom time, students, will perform four hours of in-car observation. Observers will EARN these hours by being engaged and completing the in-car assignment.
• 4 HOURS IN-CAR OBSERVATION
• Students must be 14 years 8 months of age by the first day of class.
• Students will be required to achieve a 70% or higher on the state written exam
• Students must attend all class sessions. One absence is allowed with a built in make-up session

Please pay attention to the class dates as the state only allows one absence. Also - should you change classes there is a $30 administration fee.
